- A preceptor job on this site is a student placement accepted as an independent contractor, not W-2 employment: the preceptor keeps their own practice, chooses which placement to accept, and is paid per block.
- The preceptor names a rate between $12 and $20 per student hour; a standard block is 120 student hours and pays $1,440 to $2,400, released in two deposits at the midpoint and final evaluations.
- A 120-hour block spread over a 14 to 16 week term works out at eight or nine hours a week, which is why most preceptors treat one opening as a single clinic day.
- Who can take a clinical NP placement: an active unencumbered license, national board certification in the student's population, and two years of practice since certification; RNs holding an MSN and a current teaching or management role take education and leadership practica instead.
- The student's program decides how much of a rotation may be completed by telehealth, and preceptor fees are reported on a 1099-NEC once the year's total reaches $600; nothing is ever charged to the preceptor.
